Halloween Jamboree 2017

Spooky costumes, yummy treats and goodie bag galore. This year we had the absolute pleasure of hosting our annual Halloween party at our new location on 2nd Street! From pumpkin decorating to Spanish story time, we had an absolute blast and definitely made it a Halloween to remember. A photo wall, oodles of candy and fangtastic refreshments pulled the whole party together. We even had a caricature artist at the store to capture everyone’s look!

Take a peek at a few snapshots from the event 🙂

As usual, we hosted a costume contest complete with prizes. The outfits this year were absolutely killer! It was such a treat to see everyone look so festive — choosing only three winners was so difficult.

After hours of contemplating who had the most fear-inspiring outfits, we managed to narrow it down. A special congratulations to our winners!

4 Ways to Style Velvet

We can’t help but bask in fall fashion and the one trend we find ourselves reaching for and loving the most is the dreamy texture of velvet. Of course, it’s a no brainer that we try to incorporate the fashion world’s hottest trends into micro fashion for our favorite little humans. Here are 4 ways you can style your mini in velvet this fall from some of our beloved velvet products.

We’re absolutely obsessed with yellow this fall season! Yellow velvet takes our signature Paush Heart Romper to a whole new level. Your mini will undoubtedly turn heads in matching yellow Wunderkind Bows, our Paush Mesh Long Sleeve and Joyfolie Mary Janes, creating the perfect October statement outfit.

Paush Mustard Velvet Heart Romper

Channel your little one’s  inner Victorian babe with our Paush hunter green dress and crisp white vintage long sleeve. Compliment this deep green with a hint of mustard yellow for the ultimate trend-setting Fall ensemble

Paush Hunter Green Pinafore

Velvet on velvet on velvet. We’re absolutely in love with our newest accessories: Mandy Tangerine headwraps! Whether you stick with the velvet trend or opt for a classic jersey knit, these pieces are sure to add a cute flair to our heart rompers.

Casual, chic and edgy, this vintage jean jacket adds a ‘90s flair to our favorite velvet mauve Paush dress! Go even a little edgier with a mesh long sleeve (for added warmth and style) and your mini will be set for a day out.

Side note: We’re all too excited about carrying Dr. Martens in store! Snag a pair today before it’s too late

Meet Kylie Marco | Mini Stylist for Sweet Threads

ImageIntriguing, fashionable with a unique sense of style, a blogger, an actress, an artist and spreads cheerfulness all around her. These are words I use to describe a striking 12 year old girl I met at the Rose Bowl Flea Market earlier this year. She’s not your average 12 year old friends. Meet Kylie Marco from sunnysideky.blogspot.com.

Kylie first stepped into our booth at the Rose Bowl Flea Market earlier in February. She had the cutest vintage schoolgirl inspired ensemble, wearing adorable vintage round eyeglasses that were probably too big for her frame but seemed to work nicely and finished off her outfit with a big statement bow atop her head! I was intrigued and almost intimidated to approach her. When I finally got a chance to say hello she politely introduced herself and handed me her business card. Oh boy, was I pleasantly surprised by one, her sense of style and second, her professionalism from such a young gal. Then came the cherry on top. Kylie turns out to be a blogger! She’s just simply amazing. I’d continue to run into her at the local flea markets and she’ll even occasionally sell at her very own booth. She’ a mighty fine seller at that!

ImageSweet Threads had their upcoming Fall13 Look Book shoot to plan for and being that we like to promote and encourage children’s arts and creativity, we thought this was the perfect opportunity to invite Kylie to join the team as our mini stylist.

Boy were we lucky to have her come on board! Even with her busy Summer schedule with taking acting classes, cello and japanese lessons and keeping up with her blog, she was still able to squeeze some time to help Sweet Threads. See her in action below in photos taken by Katie Ging!

We had a chance to sit with Kylie and get to know her a little better. Check out what she has to say.

How did you come up with the blog title Sunny Side Ky?

“I thought about things that were happy, cheery and what came to mind were phrases such as “Sunny Side of the Street” or “Bright Side of the Mind”. That’s when I came up with ‘Sunny Side Kylie’.”

What made you want to start a blog?

“My dad pulled up a photo of Tavi Gevinson and said she has really good tatse. I asked my dad what a blog was. He mentioned you can design it a certain way and talked about how I could make a statement with it. I then thought of a starting a fashion blog as a way to express myself.”

Where does your love for vintage come from?

“Vintage is one of a kind and very unique. With a vintage piece, I knew no one else would be wearing it. I felt I could set a trend with my style.”

Dead or alive, who would you want to meet?

“Vincent Van Gough.”

Where do you see yourself in 10-20 years?

“Backstage at NY Fashion Week styling.”

What kind of music do you enjoy listening to?

“Classical or broadway music. I like to listen to classical music especially when studying. I can recognize things better.”

Tell us your favorite quote and where you found it.

“I found my favorite quote on a Juice Box and it read ‘Be yourself, everybody else is taken’ ~ Fat Albert. “

Kylie is not your normal 7th grader. She wants to make statements and show others that you can express yourself any way you want.

Amazing, right? Such an inspiration! I have a big hunch this girl is going to do or be someone big. Just you wait and see.
